Love in Late Afternoon
We lie atop the fresh bed linen.
Ceiling fan laps the air.
Love in late afternoon.
French doors draped with lace curtains
half-mast with climbing roses above
Light from skylights.
Our bodies, naked and imperfect,
but still working so well.
So delicious these afternoons
without the tiredness of nightfall.
Soon, dogs having finished treats,
will scratch at the door.
The scent of the crockpot bubbles.
The shower calls for two.
Afternoons, and ourselves, well-spent.
