Beyond
We stand together
like the frightened
teenagers we were
once our shoulders
rub my knuckles
follow the bumpy road
of your bones beneath
a sheath of tender
kissable skin as though
we are afraid
to take the next step
The ocean waves
salty and cool
laps our feet
but not strong enough
to pull us in yet
we do not budge
content in the moment
in time the high tide
will come and take us
to a place beyond
metaphor
it is not just
you I love,
but all of it.
