Rival

Do you remember? In college,
your spit: you’ll never write anything worth–
I trudged through snow and sun, the mud loaf of
what dreams we shared. I must know
if you remember. The algae on the surface of
my memory. Which pond are you? Which
reckoning? I will never match the greats,
I know, their bountiful orange groves,
but in the shade I will eat with you, too.
