On Girlhood
One day,
Not long after they were just girls,
Tutu and cheetah costume turn into a mid-length dress and green tights on their way to work
Pink pompom plastic princess heels that shuffle across the carpet turn to
heels that click clack on the bar floor on weekend nights under magenta luminescence
Right before you
Behind blue-green eyes, childhood worry wretches in her brain and,
One day,
Turns into grown woman thoughts
Do I need to fill my tank? Will I ever love again? What time am I working tomorrow?
One day
I woke up and realized
I have not splashed in a rain puddle in nearly 15 years
Yesterday
I was just a girl
