The Sacrament of Gentrification

The Sacrament of Gentrification

Pray, O god of sun.
honey dewdrops in the land
of delineation. petrified
escape into the mind where we
exist as portion:
O god of our silly destiny.
frightened cattle in the cloud,
raindrops to steam off the leathery backs.
god of mottled black and white,
skin in perfect segregation--
where are my spots? my coloration,
blend of hues, blend of prayers
into this: footprint abandoned
in the honey hive, footprint
abandoned in the mother’s birth
canal, footprint of dust abandoned
on the door kicked in--O god
of greed. O loved ones untaken,
car and wedding ring replaced. full moon
the same over thief and father.
O god of the past--I await you here.
